DENVER—A man from suburban Denver whose home was raided after he told a television station he hoped to earn hundreds of thousands of dollars by growing medical marijuana has reached a deal with prosecutors.

Chris Bartkowicz faces a federal felony count of possession, which carries up to 40 years in prison. Bartkowicz pleaded not guilty Friday. A court document made public Tuesday indicates that an agreement has been reached and Bartkowicz wants to change his plea.

Attorney Joseph Saint-Veltri declined to comment. Marijuana dispensary proponents criticized Bartkowicz’s arrest, saying it deviates from President Barack Obama administration’s stance that those following state medical marijuana laws not be targeted for prosecution.
