BOULDER — It was a microcosm of Broomfield’s stellar run in Class 4A.
The three-time defending champion Eagles humbled Conifer 59-32 on Wednesday night at the University of Colorado’s Coors Events Center in Class 4A’s final four.
Broomfield moved to 26-1 amid attaining other huge numbers in advancing to Friday’s championship game against Longmont.
Now 132-5 over five seasons, the Eagles used superior defense and getting the ball down low to end Conifer’s run at 25-2. The Lobos were 0-for-13 in the first quarter, just 2-of-23 by halftime. They trailed 31-14 after two quarters, 52-21 after three.
As usual, Broonfield coach Mike Croell used a wave of players who generated 14 Lobos turnovers by halftime.
The Eagles will be trying to match Lamar, which won four consecutive titles from 1995-98.
They have won 23 games in succession.
Broomfild defeated Longmont 42-37 on Jan., 19.
Longmont 49, Mullen 40
An injured back kept Jamie Katuna off her game — until it mattered most.
The Longmont junior suffered through an atrocious shooting game Wednesday, but her three-pointer and key free throws in the final minutes lifted the Trojans to a 49-40 win against Mullen in the Class 4A semifinals at the Coors Events Center.
Junior power forward Tambre Haddock was stout for Longmont (24-3) with 14 points and 14 rebounds while Katuna scored 13 of her 15 in the fourth. The Trojans drilled 16-of-18 free throws in the final period.
Bailey Holland led Mullen (18-8) with 17 points.
The Trojans advanced to Friday night’s championship game.
