A 22-year-old man suspected in an alcohol-related hit-and-run was formally charged today by prosecutors.
Robert Jesse Gallegos is charged with vehicular assault – DUI, and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury, both felonies, according to a Denver District Attorney’s Office media release.
He also faces a DUI charge, a misdemeanor.
The charges allege that early Saturday morning “Gallegos was under the influence of alcohol” when he hit a 24-year-old woman who was walking near East Evans Avenue and University Boulevard, the release said.
Prosecutors said Gallegos “fled the scene and was arrested a short time later when he returned.”
Gallegos is free on a $50,000 bond. His next scheduled court appearance is March 22.
