A 40-year-old accused sex offender committed suicide this afternoon in the Boulder County Jail, the Sheriff’s Department said tonight.
The inmate hanged himself in his cell and was found at about 4:30 p.m., according to a statement.
He was arrested on Feb. 24 and faced four counts of sex assault on a child and one count of sex abuse.
The coroner identified him as Nicholas White of Longmont.
Authorities said they would release more details about the death once a preliminary investigation is done.
The man was being housed in a cell to himself for protective custody, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
