DENVER—The University of Colorado regents are considering whether to raise tuition by 9 percent for in-state students and 5 percent for new out-of-state students.
The regents discussed the increase Wednesday and scheduled a vote for March 29.
They say they’re reluctant to raise students’ costs but say they face a crisis because of declining state funding.
Kelly Fox, CU’s chief financial officer, says that even with the tuition increase and $21 million in cuts from next year’s budget, the university could face a shortfall of up to $89 million in the 2011-12 budget year.
CU has campuses in Boulder, Denver, Aurora and Colorado Springs.
