At Hi Corbett Field
Hits: In his Cactus League debut, first baseman Jason Giambi made a diving catch and was subsequently smoked on the forearm by a pitch. Todd Helton will play Sunday. The schedule is mapped out for each of them to play every other day, and Helton won’t be traveling to Phoenix. . . . Outfielder Carlos Gonzalez rapped a two-out RBI single, scoring Ian Stewart. Stewart, who doubled, has adapted well to his new, shorter swing, going 7-for-16 this spring. . . . Troy Tulowitzki, who aspires to steal 30 bases, swiped his first of the spring.
Misses: Left-handed reliever Randy Flores had an ugly line and worse luck — three runs, two earned. The runs came courtesy of three infield singles and a broken-bat single. “Unbelievable,” left fielder Jay Payton said. . . . The Rockies committed three errors, including a throwing error by Flores and a fielding gaffe by Stewart.
What’s next: Rockies vs. Brewers, 1:05 p.m., Maryvale Stadium. Rockies’ Jason Hammel vs. Brewers’ Manny Parra.
