DURANGO — Colorado State-Pueblo went on a 22-0 second-half run Friday to beat Wayne (Neb.) State 59-48 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Central Regional for the Thunderwolves’ first win in NCAA play.
The T-wolves (21-10), the seventh seed, trailed 44-35 with 10:04 left but held the No. 2-seeded and 22nd-ranked Wildcats (26-7) scoreless to take a 57-46 lead with 35 seconds left in the game.
The Thunderwolves’ lone post player, Caitlyn Jewell, started to find her way during the run despite four fouls, making two layups to cut the deficit to seven points.
Concordia-St. Paul 87, Adams State 59The third-seeded Golden Bears (25-5) put their offense, fifth-best in D-II, into gear behind Jineen Williams, who scored 32 points, and ended the Grizzlies’ (21-8) season.
Vera Jo Bustos led the Grizzlies with 19 points.
Fort Lewis 63, Colorado Mines 54Alison Rosel scored eight points in an 18-4 run to start the second half, and the Skyhawks (31-3) held off Mines down the stretch.
The No. 8-seed Orediggers (20-9) rallied to within five points with just over two minutes left, but Fort Lewis made its free throws.
Rosel had a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Katie Mackey added 17 points for the No. 1-seeded Skyhawks. Brecca Gaffney led Mines with 17 points.
Fort Lewis will play Augustana (S.D.), which beat Minnesota-Duluth 74-57, in tonight’s semifinal.
CSU-Pueblo faces Concordia-St. Paul in the first semifinal.
