University of Northern Colorado men’s basketball coach Tad Boyle received two more awards Friday — to go with the two he received earlier in the week.
The National Association of Basketball Coaches named Boyle and Utah State’s Stew Morrill its District 6 co-coaches of the year, and Sporting News named Boyle the top coach in the Big Sky Conference. Previously, named Boyle the conference coach of the year, and he was listed as one of the finalists for the Hugh Durham midmajor coach of the year award.
Wyoming diver qualifies for NCAAs.
Stephanie Ortiz became the first Wyoming female diver to qualify for the NCAA championships with a third-place finish at the NCAA Zone E championships in Austin, Texas. Ortiz totaled 635.30 points on the 3-meter springboard.
Bieniemy, McCartney nominated for Hall.
Former University of Colorado running back Eric Bieniemy and former Buffaloes coach Bill McCartney have been nominated for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. It’s the first time on the ballot for both, and they join former Buffs outside linebacker Alfred Williams. The Hall’s class of 2010 will be announced May 27. McCartney, Bieniemy and Williams all took part in CU’s 1990 national championship team.
