If the theme is any indication, this year’s Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade is going to be an extra-fun one: “Shamrockin’ 2010” celebrates the contributions of the Irish to pop music. It’s not just U2, either: Irish people and traditional music have influenced genres like folk, bluegrass and country too. Appropriately, the parade marshals are the Bridies, a quartet of traditional musicians from the Auld Sod. There will be step dancers and pipe bands, and keep an eye out for this year’s Queen Colleen: Kerry Elizabeth Barley, a junior at Metropolitan State College. The parade of 220 entries steps off at Blake and 27th streets today at 10 a.m. Kathleen St. John, Special to the Denver Post
