LINCOLN, Neb.—A vote to kill a bill has kept Nebraska lawmakers from discussing whether some illegal immigrants still should be allowed to pay in-state tuition at state colleges.

The bill killed on Friday would have required the Nebraska School Activities Association to follow open records and meetings laws.

Because the bill was killed, an amendment to it that would have repealed the in-state tuition law was not discussed.

State Sen. Scott Lautenbaugh has said he will try to attach the same amendment to another bill this legislative session.

The in-state tuition law allows illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition if they graduated from Nebraska high schools, lived in the state for at least three years and are pursuing or promise to pursue legal status.
