The pachyderm palace at the Denver Zoo has a new elephantmade from monkey wood.
The 6-foot-by-5-foot statue from Thailand, below, will eventually have a home in the zoo’s Asian Tropics exhibit, but will join its living counterparts today for National Thai Elephant Day.
Elephant Day is Thailand’s celebration of its national beast, including feeding the favored behemoths a buffet of fruits and vegetables. The Denver Zoo’s Asian pachyderms, Mimi and Dolly, will enjoy such a smorgasbord at 11:30 a.m. today.
Activity stations will help visitors learn more about the life of elephants and their relationships with humans, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The activities are free with a paid admission to the zoo. The Denver Post
