For the 11th consecutive year, KUSA-Channel 9 was named station of the year by the Colorado Broadcasters Association.
KUSA received a total of 22 awards at the CBA’s annual banquet in Denver on Saturday, including best breaking news (for coverage of the Southlands tornado), and best regularly scheduled newscast (the 5 p.m. program). 9News’ Mark Koebrich won as Best Anchor and Drew Soicher won as best sportscaster. Additionally KUSA president and general manager Mark Cornetta was honored for his efforts to smooth the Denver market’s transition from analog to digital television.
KMGH-Channel 7 took top honors for best documentary (“Children Failed: Children Forsaken”) and best hard news coverage (“Medical Misadventure: Death to the State Hospital”). 7News’ Mike Nelson was named best weathercaster and investigative reporter John Ferrugia was named best specialty reporter.
KCNC-Channel 4 was cited for its website and promotional campaign; KDVR-Channel 31 landed the best program honor for “Colorado’s Most Wanted” and KCEC won for best community service campaign.
In the non-metro television category, KKTV in Colorado Springs won station of the year; in the radio competition, Denver’s KOA won station of the year.
