With the April 6 application deadline for limited big-game hunting licenses approaching and some significant changes in the regulations for 2010, the Division of Wildlife is reaching out to hunters to make the process easier.

Extended hours, seminars and an updated brochure on the DOW’s website are part of the effort.

The northeast service center, at 6060 Broadway in Denver, will extend its hours April 5-6 to assist last-minute hunters with the application process.

In the southeast, the DOW is continuing a series of seminars in Pueblo today; Kiowa on Friday; Cañon City, Saturday; Buena Vista and Ellicott, Tuesday; and Salida, March 27.

The 2010 regulations booklet is available at DOW offices and most other license outlets. The brochure also can be found on the DOW’s website:

Turkey time.

Hunters interested in learning more about hunting wild turkeys in Colorado might consider attending one of four free seminars to be conducted by the DOW.

The classes are geared primarily for beginners and will provide an overview. DOW biologists will discuss turkey habitat, locating birds, safety tips, current regulations, and hunting tips and techniques.

Class schedules and locations are:

Denver: March 25, 6:30-9:30 p.m., DOW Hunter Education Building, 6060 Broadway. Class size will be limited to 150. Call 303-291-7545 for reservations.
