$7.98 per four-pack of 14.9-ounce cans
With St. Patrick’s Day upon us, a lot of folks will deviate from their usual drinking habits to quaff a Guinness or two. If you can’t get one from a tap, try the canned version. It contains a “floating widget” that nitro-carbonates the beer upon opening. This gives it the classic Guinness pour, with the tiny bubbles cascading down amid the blackish-brown, not-quite-opaque liquid as the creamy tan head forms atop the glass. Roasted coffee and dark chocolate are the primary aromas and flavors in this gold standard of stouts, and it’s lighter than its reputation; there are many richer, heavier stouts to be had among both foreign and domestic brews. Underscoring that fact are the mere 125 calories per 12 ounces and almost-grocery- store-ready 4.2 percent alcohol by volume. Having been brewed for 251 years, Guinness lends genuine tradition to any celebration of today’s holiday. Guinness & Co., St. James’s Gate, Dublin, Ireland; .
