A Fort Lupton man was convicted of first-degree murder today for shooting his cousin in the head in 2008 over suspicions of a romantic tryst.
Norberto Abundez, 43, had told deputies he shot his cousin, Jesus Abundez-Plige, at his Platteville home because he suspected his cousin was having an affair with Abundez’s wife.
The Weld County jury also found Abundez guilty of violating his bail bond conditions and violating a protective order regarding his cousin because of an earlier incident.
Abundez was sentenced immediately to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
