U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will visit Denver on Friday to raise funds for Sen. Michael Bennet’s re-election campaign and to make some education-related stops, including a visit to a Denver school.

The official announcement of Duncan’s trip will be made today at a Senate hearing on the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.

Bennet serves on the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, and Duncan will be testifying.

Duncan will attend a fundraising lunch Friday at the home of Kristin Richardson. She is chairwoman of the Denver Public Schools Foundation.

Bennet and Duncan then will appear at a round-table discussion about school innovation with urban and rural school districts at the Cable Center at the University of Denver.

The two then will travel to Brown Elementary in northwest Denver for a brief tour of the school, which has seen marked improvement in student achievement over the years.
