David Andrew Herr, wanted for attempting to run over an Adams County deputy sheriff late Tuesday, was arrested Thursday after a short foot chase in Federal Heights.
Herr was spotted by deputies from the sheriff’s office and officers from the Federal Heights Police Department in the 8800 block of North Federal Boulevard about 5 p.m. Thursday.
He was taken into custody and booked into the Adams County Detention Facility. He is being investigated for attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, child abuse and vehicular eluding stemming from the incident on Tuesday.
Herr is being held without bond for a warrant out of the Department of Corrections for a parole violation on an assault conviction.
The incident on Tuesday began about 10:30 p.m. when a deputy sheriff attempted to stop a vehicle near Pecos Street and Orchard Avenue for a traffic violation.
The driver of the older model, four-door, Buick began to elude the deputy and a chase began.
The chase was called off near East 70th Avenue and Washington Street in unincorporated Adams County.
A short time later, a deputy saw the Buick turn west from Washington on to East 64th Street, which dead-ends just east of Interstate 25.
Deputies converged on the area. When they did, Herr allegedly tried to run over a deputy.
Herr was pursued into Denver but was able to elude officers.Howard Pankratz: 303-954-1939 or hpankratz@denverpost.com
