AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.—A new statue at the Air Force Academy honors Charles Edward Taylor, who built the Wright brothers’ first aircraft engine.

The bust was dedicated this month and sits on the sixth floor of the academy’s McDermott Library, next to a statue of Orville and Wilbur Wright.

Taylor became a lead mechanic for the brothers’ airplane company, the Wright Co. He died in 1956 at age 87.

Virginia Hess sculpted the bust.
