Bob Hamley will take over as the Mammoth coach, it was announced by the team Monday.

Hamley, who was hired as an assistant coach a month ago, takes over for Steve Govett. Govett, the team president and general manager, had assumed the coaching job earlier in the season when he fired Bob McMahon after Colorado’s 0-2 start.

“We’re trying every possible combination to get the team back on track,” said Govett. “This is another step in the process.”

Hamley has a 46-42 career record in the National Lacrosse League. He has been a coach and general manager of the Arizona Sting and Edmonton Rush.

“We have to figure things out to get back to where Mammoth fans and the organization itself are accustomed to,” said Hamley. “I’m excited by the increased responsibility.”

The Mammoth (2-7) host the Washington Stealth (7-3) on Friday at the Pepsi Center.

In 2005, Hamley became the first in league history to win the coach of the year and GM of the year after Arizona reached the Champion’s Cup final. Two years later, Arizona again fell just one win shy of a title.

Hamley is bringing back McMahon to be an assistant.
