At the state Capitol in Denver this morning Gov. Ritter congratulated U.S. Olympian and Colorado Springs resident Steve Holcomb.

Holcomb, 29, was a member of the four-man bobsled team that won a gold medal in the Vancouver Olympic games last month.

The U.S. team, driven by Holcomb, won all four heats in Vancouver, setting track records in its first two runs. And its total time beat the field by
nearly half a second. In bobsled, that’s like half a football field.

It was the first bobsled gold medal for an American men’s team since 1948.
