EVANS, Colo.—The city of Evans is laying off 18 employees including the fire marshal and a police officer to deal with budget cuts.

City Manager Aden Hogan said Tuesday that 22 jobs were being cut, including four empty positions. Some services also are being reduced or eliminated. A deputy clerk and a recreation coordinator are having their hours cut.

Hogan says the moves should help save about $1 million.

He says tax revenue has fallen in the wake of several business closings.
