When a garage exploded Wednesday morning in Fort Collins, a father and his toddler son were inside, and both were badly burned.

They were rushed to the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, authorities said, and the child, Trenton Viney, was airlifted first to Children’s Hospital in Aurora and then on to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Sacramento, Calif.

The father, Josh Viney, was treated and released. A neighbor told the Fort Collins Coloradoan that the child was badly burned from the waist up.

The cause of the noontime blaze in the 900 block of Camelot Court is still under investigation, said Poudre Fire Authority Capt. Patrick Love. It likely started when an engine being cleaned in the garage somehow sparked and “exploded,” he said.
