GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Prosecutors have filed charges of first-degree murder and misdemeanor child abuse against a Grand Junction man accused of stabbing his wife to death in front of their 2-year-old daughter.

Twenty-four-year-old Octavio Vargas-Herrera was formally charged Tuesday. He is being held on $1 million bond.

An arrest affidavit says Vargas-Herrera allegedly told police his 23-year-old wife, Jeana Ann Vargas, had said she didn’t love him anymore.

She was stabbed in the neck March 14.
