BOULDER, Colo.—A former highly regarded University of Colorado football recruit was sentenced to six months of work release and three years of probation for violating the terms of a previous case where he pleaded guilty to menacing.
Lynn Katoa had received a three-year deferred sentence in 2008 after the menacing plea in a case where police say he hit a man in the head with a rock. Katoa’s record would’ve been cleared if he stayed out of trouble but prosecutors say he failed to undergo substance abuse monitoring and later missed a court appearance.
Katoa received the new sentence Thursday.
Katoa was regarded as one of country’s top linebackers in 2008 when CU recruited him. He was cut by CU last year and has been attending a junior college in Arizona.
