Boulder authorities were investigating alleged hazardous materials Thursday night at the Boulder Homeless Shelter at Lee Hill Road and Broadway.
A resident of the shelter was arrested in Boulder on a warrant from Arapahoe County earlier in the day. He told authorities he had a dangerous substance among his personal things stored at the shelter.
The Boulder County Hazardous Materials Team investigated for hours into the night, but the substance was not immediately identified.
Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said the public is not at risk. She would not say what the man claimed to have but said it should not pose a risk if handled correctly.
Authorities have not released the man’s name or the reason he was wanted in Arapahoe County.
About 75 residents were relocated from the shelter to the Boulder Housing Partners building across the street at 4:45 p.m.
