BOULDER, Colo.—Boulder’s Democrat District Attorney says he is considering running against state Republican Attorney General John Suthers this fall after he announced this week he would join a national lawsuit challenging new health care legislation.

But Stan Garnett he’s “strongly leaning against” a run because of his short tenure as district attorney.

Garnett said Friday he thinks Suthers is making a mistake by joining a dozen other states with attorneys general trying to block the legislation. Most of the attorneys general in the lawsuit are Republican.

Garnett says the lawsuit is “blatantly partisan” and “pointless.”

Garnett, who has held his current post for 14 months, says he will speak to party leaders over the weekend before making his decision.
