The Northern Colorado baseball team returned home Friday after a five-game road trip and snapped a five-game losing skid, topping Montana State-Billings 13-5 at Jackson Field.
The Bears (5-15), who finished with 14 hits, were led by freshman Mark Shannon, who had a career-best six RBIs, including a three-run homer. Senior Tyler Borzileri went 3-for-4.
UNC pitcher Joe Sawicki (2-2) threw seven scoreless innings and gave up six hits.
The two teams play the second of the three-game series today at noon in Greeley. Joe Willman is scheduled to pitch for the Bears.
Falcon netters snap skid.
The Air Force women’s tennis team recorded its first Mountain West Conference victory since March 4, 2006, defeating New Mexico 7-0 in Forth Worth, Texas, on Thursday.
It was the Falcons’ first victory over the Lobos in academy history. It was also AFA’s first shutout of an MWC opponent as the team improved to 14-5 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
DU opens in new conference.
The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team will open conference play today at 1 p.m. against Hobart at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. The Pioneers are in their first season as members of the Eastern College Athletic Conference.
