BOULDER — Timothy Leifield, well-known for his work on behalf of Boulder’s nonprofit and gay communities, died Tuesday at his Boulder home. He was 55.
The Boulder County Coroner’s Office had not ruled Sunday on a cause of death, although no foul play is suspected.
Leifield played a major role in the growth of the Boulder County AIDS Project, serving as executive director from 1989 to 1996.
Robin Bohannan, Boulder County’s community services director, worked at the Boulder County AIDS Project with Leifield.
“It was a really scary time,” she said Sunday. “There was a lot of fear and bigotry. Tim was able to help people see that this was a human- rights issue.”
