Traffic will be obstructed on U.S. 36 in Broomfield tonight and Thursday night as crews work on a new bridge over the turnpike.

Tonight, one eastbound lane between Wadsworth Parkway and Church Ranch Boulevard will be closed at 8 p.m. with all lanes closing at 10 p.m. and reopening at 5 a.m.

A detour is available by taking Wadsworth to Church Ranch Road.

On Thursday, one lane of westbound U.S. 36 between Church Ranch Boulevard and Wadsworth Parkway will be closed at 8 p.m. with all lanes closing at 10 p.m. and reopening at 5 a.m.

Wadsworth to Church Ranch Boulevard will serve as the detour Thursday night as well.

The bridge is one of three to be built as part of the $23 million construction project scheduled for complection in October.

The project will relieve traffic on Wadsworth and its interchange with U.S. 36. Traffic is expected to double in the area over the next 20 years, CDOT said in a statement.

The project also includes new bridges over 120th Avenue and Commerce Street.

Several roads will be realigned, including Commerce Street, Old Wadsworth Boulevard and 118th Avenue. The RTD park-n-Ride at Wadsworth Parkway will also be relocated near the Broomfield Event Center, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

This project is being paid for by state and federal funds, as well as the city and county of Broomfield.
