LOS ANGELES—Security has been tightened at Los Angeles International Airport after a Qatari diplomat trying to sneak a smoke in an airplane bathroom sparked a bomb scare on a flight from Washington to Denver.
The man, identified as Mohammed Al-Madidi, was arrested when the plane landed in Denver Wednesday night.
In a statement, Los Angeles Airport Police Chief George Centeno said officers at LAX have increased patrols in the terminals and along the facility’s perimeter following the incident.
Centeno says airport police will stay in close contact with federal authorities as the developments in Denver unfold.
Senior law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity say no explosives were found on the man, and officials do not believe he was trying to harm anyone.
