Getting your player ready...

The draft is a passion for NFL reporter Jeff Legwold, who evaluates several hundred players each year in the months leading up to the annual selections. Legwold offers his insights here daily, with additional entries found at .

In an NFL draft, the team that takes the “need” player over the talented player oftentimes is the same one that ends up with a string of disappointing draft classes.

The Broncos have two glaring need positions — center and inside linebacker — where the talent on the board fits nicely in the first round. They just may have to move a little to get it done.

Certainly Josh McDaniels knows what kind of impact a rookie linebacker can have after seeing Jerod Mayo win defensive rookie of the year for the Patriots in 2008.

But if the Broncos want Alabama’s Rolando McClain — one of the few big inside backers on the board ready to play right now in the league — indications are they will have to move up to get him.

And if they want Florida center Maurkice Pouncey, a rare first-round talent at the position, the value may be to move down to take him. Either way, a move may be in order.
