DENVER—Metro State College officials say a student has died from a suspected case of bacterial meningitis and are talking to the students’ classmates.
State health officials notified the college that the student died Friday.
Officials at the Denver college say they don’t know of an outbreak of meningitis on campus, but warn that the illness may occur suddenly and get worse quickly.
Steve Monaco, director of the Health Center at Auraria, says people with symptoms should quickly seek medical care. He says students should consider getting vaccinated.
Symptoms can include fever, severe headache, stiff neck, irritability, nausea, vomiting and being disoriented or confused.
