BAYFIELD, Colo.—A new brewery backed by a Texas-based investment firm plans to open in southwest Colorado next week.

Managing partner Scot Elliot of Austin-based SEAR Capitol LP says the Bayfield Brewing Co. is scheduled to open April 15 in Bayfield, creating four jobs immediately.

Elliott estimates the brewery could hire 20 to 40 more people if SEAR decides to add a canning line there.

It will lease property once occupied by Steamworks Brewing Co., which closed its Bayfield location Jan. 1.

SEAR Capitol plans to spend $180,000 on improvements to boost capacity. Locally, the brewery expects to produce 120 to 150 barrels a month for Steamworks and 60 to 90 barrels a month for the Silverton Brewery.
