GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—The popular Hanging Lake Trail in Glenwood Canyon will be closed for much of the summer for maintenance.
The trail will be closed from May 1 to Aug. 1 and from Sept. 15-20 for work that includes replacing the boardwalk around most of the lake.
White River National Forest public information officer Pat Thrasher says an estimated 1 million hikers have used the boardwalk since it was installed in 1992.
The construction work will include installing a retaining wall near the east end of the boardwalk to divert some of the sediment that’s draining into the lake.
The project will cost an estimated $1.1 million.
