A kite that wrapped its line around two power lines set off sparks and started a 5-acre grass fire that threatened homes southeast of Parker earlier tonight.
The wind-driven fire came within feet of several homes in the rural area, South Metro Fire Rescue spokesman Andy Lyon said.
About 40 firefighters from several area agencies took about an hour to bring the blaze under control after it was reported about 7:15 p.m., he said.
