Getting your player ready...

Miguel Olivo hit two home runs in the first week of the season, giving him 98 for his career. The catcher also has 99 walks in 2,498 career at-bats, putting him in position to become the first major-leaguer ever with 100-plus home runs to have more homers than walks.

Breaking out of the box.

The good news for the Rockies is that they have scored first in all seven of their games. The bad news is they’ve lost three. They’ve had leads of 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 4-0 (twice), 7-0 and 8-0.

It’s fun getting runs.

The A’s supported Greg Smith with an average of 2.88 runs per game in 2008, the lowest figure in the major leagues in 11 years. Number of times the A’s scored 11 runs when he was on the mound? That would be twice in 32 starts.
