Colorado State sophomore Kelli Eubanks threw her first collegiate no-hitter Thursday in a 8-0 win over Utah (17-21, 0-3 Mountain West) in Fort Collins, her third complete-game shutout of the season.
Allison Majam and Robyn Mask each scored a run and had two RBIs for the Rams (23-14, 1-3), and Jenna Krogh hit her first home run to back Eubanks (17-9), who allowed two baserunners and struck out six in five innings.
CSU golfers sitting in second place.
The Colorado State women’s golf team was in second place after the first day of the Mountain West Championships, 12 strokes behind the leader, New Mexico.
Emily Roering and Emily Stone each shot 4-over-par 76s for CSU at Black Stone Golf Course in Seaside, Calif., good for a tie for seventh. New Mexico’s Jodi Stewart and Rebecca Hellborn were tied for the lead at 71. The Rams shot an 18-over 306 as a team. The Lobos were at 294. Wyoming was in seventh place after a 321.
CU’s Coburn sets mark.
University of Colorado sophomore Emma Coburn is following nicely in the footsteps of former teammate Jenny Barringer. Coburn posted the fastest time in the world for the 2010 season in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
The former Crested Butte High School standout had a time of 9 minutes, 56.29 seconds, a personal best and about seven seconds better than the previous best time of the year, Shayla Houlihan’s 10:03.26.
Freshman Aric Van Halen, the son of Van Halen drummer Alex Van Halen, made his Buffs debut with a third in the men’s steeplechase, and teammate Cameron Clayton was sixth.
