CASTLE ROCK, Colo.—Two cases of plague have been confirmed in two dead squirrels found in a neighborhood in Castle Rock.
The Tri-County Health Department which includes Douglas County south of Denver says there have been no reports of plague in humans this year.
Plague is spread by fleas to rodents and other small animals. Humans can also catch the disease through flea bites. Dogs and cats can both get plague or carry infected fleas.
Symptoms include high fever and extreme fatigue.
