Beginning today, Ted Thomas’ history-revealing “Walt and El Grupo” screens as part of Create Denver Week. The documentary recounts the 1941 trip Walt Disney and a select group of his animators took to Brazil, Argentina and Chile. The diplomatic sojourn — a respite from a bruising labor dispute — was paid for by the State Department, which was countering Germany’s inroads with Latin American governments. The Denver Film Society has Disney on the mind. Next week begins “Waking Sleeping Beauty,” Don Hahn’s insider skinny on the animation division’s rise from drowsy afterthought to hitmaker in the mid-’80s. Through Sunday, Starz FilmCenter at the Tivoli, Ninth and Auraria Parkway. 303-820-FILM or . Lisa Kennedy
