CRAIG, Colo.—Marianna Raftopoulos, a former Moffat County commissioner and state wildlife commissioner, has died after a long battle with lymphoid leukemia. She was 55.

Family members say Raftopoulos died Wednesday at her home in northwest Colorado after leaving a Salt Lake City hospital the day before.

She was a Grand Junction native and earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Colorado in Boulder. She was a consultant in the oil and gas industry and was the first and only female Moffat County commissioner.

Raftopoulos also served four years on the Colorado Wildlife Commission.

She is survived by her parents, Nick and Helen Mahleres of Grand Junction; husband, John; and children, George, 24, Mari Katherine, 21, and Angelo, 17.
