DENVER—Authorities say a Custer County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man who was threatening the officer with a knife.
Custer County Sheriff Fred Jobe says the incident began after the allegedly unruly man was kicked out of a Westcliffe restaurant Saturday night.
Jobe says his office was called and the deputy who responded pulled the suspect over as he was driving away.
He says 57-year-old Cixto Rodriguez of Arlington, Texas, drew a knife and repeatedly threatened the deputy, at one point saying: “you don’t have it in you to shoot me.
Jobe says the deputy warned Rodriguez to stop but fired twice as he continued to approach.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Custer County District Attorney’s Office are investigating.
The deputy who wasn’t immediately identified was place on paid administrative leave.
