WASHINGTON—A day later, Rockies manager Jim Tracy is still steamed about a balk call during the ninth inning of a loss to the Braves and what he believes is a “misinterpretation” of reliever Franklin Morales’ pickoff move.
Tracy says Monday that the Rockies sent footage of Morales to Major League Baseball’s New York office during spring training after another balk ruling—but they’re still waiting for a “clarification.”
The manager says each umpire interprets the balk rule differently because it’s not “clear-cut, black-and-white.”
In Colorado’s 4-3 loss to Atlanta on Sunday, one umpire initially called a balk on fill-in closer Morales, then rescinded the call. Later, another balk call against Morales stood.
