DELTA, Colo.—A man who died after falling 150 feet into the Smith Fork Canyon on the Western Slope has been identified.

Delta County Sheriff Fred McKee Monday identified the man as 53-year old Michael Soltvedt of Montrose. Soltvedt’s death has been ruled an accident.

McKee says the man was traveling along a road that runs along the north rim of the canyon when he stopped to use the bathroom and walked over the edge at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. McKee says toxicology tests will determine whether alcohol was involved.
