The University of Denver women’s golf team shot a final-round 286 and finished with an 865 to win the the Sun Belt Conference championship Wednesday in Muscle Shoals, Ala.

It is the seventh consecutive team title for the Pioneers, who beat second-place Middle Tennessee State by 34 strokes.

Kimberly Kim earned her first Sun Belt individual title, shooting a 71 in the final round to finish with 215, one stroke ahead of teammate Ellie Givens (72). Kelly Drack (71—217) finished third, Stephanie Sherlock (72—219) finished fifth and Sarah Faller (76—221) finished seventh for the Pioneers. All five women were named to the all-conference team. Kim was named the Sun Belt freshman of the year, and coach Sammie Chergo was honored as coach of the year.

Young’s homer lifts Sky Sox.

Eric Young Jr. hit his first home run of the season and the Colorado Springs Sky Sox defeated the Tacoma Rainiers 5-4 in 10 innings at Security Service Field in Colorado Springs.

It was the second straight extra-innings game for the Sky Sox, the first time in 11 years the team played back-to-back extra-inning games at home.

UNC women golfers finish fourth.

With a final- round 309, the Northern Colorado women’s golf team finished fourth at the Big Sky championships at the Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz.

The Bears shot a three-round 918 total, 18 strokes behind tournament winner Portland State. Ali Nelson led Northern Colorado, shooting a three-round 224 to finish in fifth place.
