Getting your player ready...

Thirty-seven firefighters, five of them women, are trying out tonight to be in the 2011 Colorado Firefighter Calendar.

The rowdy event starts at 6 p.m. at the Exdo Event Center — with a two-hour VIP cocktail party. The doors open to the great unwashed at 8; judging starts at 8:30.

The judges include 15 buff experts, including Channel 9’s Kirk Montgomery, salon wizard Matthew Morris, The Post’s Joanne Davidson, Realtor and Westword drinks critic Nancy Levine, The Deuce’s Chris Parente and Denver Mag’s Katie Shapiro.

I hear they plan to put Levine in restraints. And what qualifies this cocktail queen to judge firefighters for their calendar appeal? “I will ask them what they drink to cool down — because they’re so hot,” says Levine. “It really is a fun party. It’s like a Chippendales night with people you know — and the guys don’t take their pants off.”

Tix, which start at $25, are available at . Proceeds go to the Children’s Hospital.

Billy-bo.

I don’t care what the calendar says. Summer begins Sunday with the first Tambien Cantina Rockabilly and Ribs concert. It’s the Sunday afternoon summer home of tattoos, choppers, Mexican BBQ — with Ethyl & the Regulars starting it off.

Other hot acts to look for: Rhythm Dragons on June 6; Tomcat Miller Trio on June 27; and Mad Max & the Wild Oats on July 25.

The Bird is the word.

It’ll cost you — but dinner with Chris “Birdman” Andersen and his main lovebird at Elway’s Cherry Creek sounds priceless.

A table of 10 has been donated by the restaurant. Birdman takes two seats. Early-bird organizer Edie Marks has already snatched one for $1,000, which means there are seven left. Marks is hoping to sell the rest before the Cancer League’s gala on May 8. Birdman is doing the event in the name of coach George Karl.

If you want a seat at the table, call Marks at 303-905-0744.

Collection agency.

The personal collections of DU’s School of Art & Art History faculty are on display through Sunday at the Myhren Gallery. And just because you teach fine art doesn’t mean you fill your house with it. Sitting within this off-center exhibit: vintage postcards, Victorian shoes, science-fiction book jackets, San Francisco psychedelic posters and a beautiful collection of Fiestaware.

City spirit.

The Gatlin Brothers come in for the TAPS golf tourney at Arrowhead June 18 and 19. . . . I just got my mask into the Mask Project for the May 1 gala. Designer Lisa Olsen plastered it with gems, and it’s very cool. . . . Trisha Yearwood is coming to Denver with her husband, Garth Brooks, Saturday for the Denver Health Gala — but no word if she’ll jump on stage and sing along. . . . Facebook message from Denver rocker Chris Daniels: “I have finished two rounds of chemo and start the third in about two weeks. I will do six in total. Can’t wait to get back to playing and to touring with the Kings.” . . . Sez who: “I won’t insult your intelligence by suggesting that you really believe what you just said.” William F. Buckley Jr.
