Denver-area churches are launching a campaign to fight malaria.
The launch of the Ten Thousand Nets campaign today coincides with World Malaria Day.
Denver Community Church pastor Michael Hidalgo says it’s maddening that close to a million people die every year from a treatable, preventable disease.
The campaign hopes to collect enough donations to distribute 10,000 bed nets in Africa to protect people from infected mosquitoes.
On Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colorado College hosted a workshop to make bracelets that will be sold to raise money for the Against Malaria Foundation.
The anti-poverty group ONE says $10 pays for an insecticide-treated bed net that lasts up to five years.
