The Colorado State men’s golf team won the Cougar Classic on Saturday at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah, with a 7-under-par 850.

It was the first team title for the Rams since their October win at the Del Walker Intercollegiate and their first win at the Cougar Classic since they won three in a row from 2002-04.

Bryce Hanstad led the Rams with a 209, tying for fourth place individually.

Air Force’s Tom Whitney’s shot a 66 in the third round, the lowest score in the field Saturday, to finish in sixth place overall at 210, just one stroke behind Hanstad. Whitney has finished in the top 10 in all 12 tournaments he entered this season.

The Falcons turned in their best round, firing a 290 to finish the tournament at 881 for ninth place.

Wyoming fell from eighth to 12th after shooting a 13-over 301 to finish at 887.

Buffaloes settle into seventh place.

The University of Colorado men’s golf team was in seventh place at the Big 12 Conference Championships at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas, after shooting a third-round 304. The Buffs had an 888 score heading into today’s final round, 37 strokes behind tournament leader Oklahoma State.

• The CU women’s golf team shot a second-round 304 to fall into sixth place in the Big 12 Championships at the Jimmy Austin OU Golf Course in Norman, Okla. The Buffs trailed tournament leader Oklahoma State by 17 strokes heading into today’s final round.

Emily Talley remained tied for fourth after shooting a 3-over75 and was at 3-over for the championship.

Cerrone loses in UFC bout.

Ben Henderson defeated Denver’s Donald Cerrone, winning by submission via a guillotine choke at 1:57 of the first round, to retain his lightweight title in UFC action at Sacramento, Calif.

DU men notch seventh straight lacrosse victory.

Mark Matthews scored a late fourth-quarter goal, giving the University of Denver men’s lacrosse team a 9-8 victory over Fairfield in Hartford, Conn. It was the seventh consecutive win for the Pioneers.

• The University of Denver women’s lacrosse team defeated Oregon 9-7 in Eugene, Ore.. DU was led by redshirt freshman Kara Secora’s hat trick.
