A slow steady storm raised snowpack levels, soaked Denver area lawns and was a farmer’s delight, weather forecasters said.

Up to 30 inches of snow fell near the Continental Divide and most of the Denver metro area got between 2 and 3 inches of moisture, said Kyle Fredin, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder.

“Farmers like this kind of stuff,” Fredin said. “It was slow and steady. Once we heat up, it’ll green up real fast.”

The skies over the Denver metro area will clear by late afternoon, or early evening and temperatures are expected to rise to the lower 50s today, Fredin said.

Another burst of rain in Denver and snow in the mountains could come by tomorrow evening, when temperatures will hover around the mid 30s.

Temperatures will rise slowly to the upper 60s by Wednesday, Fredin said.

The moisture fell slowly and steadilyy, giving it time to soak into the ground. Had it come all at once, it would have been enough to cause flooding, he said.

Winds are expected to whip up today.

“We’ve got winds screaming on the Eastern Plains at 40 mph,” Fredin said.
