Denver police are investigating whether alcohol or drugs played a part in the death of a man run over as he walked on Interstate 25 with a cellphone to his ear.
Police have yet to identify the dead man or the driver of the GMC Jimmy SUV that struck him shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday near West Eighth Avenue. An investigation will determine whether the driver is charged, said police spokesman John White.
“The driver did leave the scene but returned. We don’t believe he was attempting to flee,” White said.
The victim was walking south in the middle lane, White said.
