BOULDER, Colo.—Engineering companies in Colorado and Washington, D.C., have been awarded a $280 million contract for work on a new air traffic control system.
The Federal Aviation Administration said Thursday that Flatirons Solutions of Boulder and CSSI of Washington will do engineering work on the NextGen program.
NextGen is a GPS-based air traffic control system. It will replace the current system, which is based on World War II-era radar technology.
The $280 million contract is the first of up to six under $7 billion program called System Engineering 2020.
